How often should I be seen for examinations and cleanings?

Most people should be seen every 6 months for an exam and cleaning.  The exam allows the dentist to look for potential problems before they become expensive or cause pain.  The dentist will examine the teeth for cavities, the gums for periodontal disease, and the whole mouth for signs of oral cancer.   The hygienist will clean your teeth of tarter, plaque, and the bacteria that lives in the plaque.
